The story behind this piece

This is the first symphony Schubert completed, on October 28, 1813, when he was sixteen. It was just before he left the Imperial and Royal boarding school in Vienna (the Stadtkonvikt), when he was playing in the students' orchestra there himself. It is a classical piece modeled on Haydn and Mozart.
